KARINA R CUNNINGHAM

Karina Cunningham is an educator and multimedia artist whose work spans sculpture, time based installation, and performance. Growing up a second-generation Peruvian American, her practice explores vulnerable states within family histories, identity, environments, and objects. Using symbolic and material devices she explores novel approaches to break away from hegemonic modes of perception, opening up new arenas for healing and restoring agency.

Born in California, Cunningham received a Bachelors of Science in Biology from California State University Polytechnic, Pomona, and received her MFA from Mason Gross School of Art and Design, Rutgers University. She currently lives and works in Brooklyn, and has exhibited her work at Plumes Gallery, Zimmerli Art Museum, Orange County Center for Contemporary Art, Muzeo Museum and Cultural Center, among others.
